Spiders have two body regions, eight legs, no antennae’s nor wings.  Some like the moisture and can be found in damp dark places like basements and other crawl spaces in buildings.  Other types of spiders like dry and warm areas like upper corners of attics and rooms or subfloor air vents.  All spiders feed off insects and weaker spiders that they can subdue.  A female spider produces an egg sac which contains little spiderlings.  Spiderlings go through a series of molts before they become adults.  Male spiders court the species to mate, some forms of mating can include elaborate dances to attract the female’s spider’s attention.  Mating for male spiders can be dangerous because the female may wind up eating the male spider.  Spiders do not have mouthparts and cannot chew; their saliva contains digestive enzymes that break own their prey before they consume it.  They are capable of making elastic silk for their webs which are strong and adhesive.  The silk is also used to construct egg sacs and line the dwellings of the spider.  The shape and size of the web varies depending on the species.  Some webs are orb-shaped, others are funnel-shaped ranging from orderly to haphazardly.  Some spiders don’t even build webs, some just live in burrows or take refuge in crevices.
